FAQs

I have had counselling before for my situation do I need to participate in your counselling 1 on 1 counselling programme?

We do not force you to revisit old ground or share your experiences – our psychological support is delivered as you demand it and it is meshed with other aspects of the programme – should you need a specific period of 1 on 1 intervention we will accommodate it but much of the psychological work we achieve is un obtrusive and linked with what you participate in while your with us.  Onward support is delivered between our courses by phone or via the internet and our teams is always happy to discuss new issues there and then as they present.

I haven’t got a definitive limb yet, should I wait until I have a definitive prosthesis before coming?

Please don’t! – the earlier you get involved the quicker your limb will reach a definitive shape and the better you will develop your physical ability beyond simply your prosthetic needs – the fitter and stronger you are the better your end result is likely to be, so come as you are and with the limb you have got that way you can develop your understanding as well as your skills.

I don’t want to be in a group rehabilitation environment – do you deliver 1 on 1 rehabilitation?

We believe that huge benefits are derived from conducting rehabilitation in a group environment – all our clients agree – but if you’re not comfortable please speak to us – we can manage your needs individually and would be delighted to discuss this should you wish.  Ultimately learning to cope in new surroundings sharing your experiences with others who have similar but often contrasting experiences is very valuable and often our clients remain in touch following our courses and sharing concerns is a great way of easing stress!

I have never done any adventure activities does this matter?

No not at all.  Our team specialise in inspirational outdoor leadership and coaching – let us guide and support you through a new series of challenges!

I am a carer but the person I care for is not under a ADVENTURE REHAB programme, can I still attend one of your carers programmes?

Yes – of course – we be delighted to meet you and for you to get the full benefits of an innovative and restorative course with our team! These courses are run in Devon and were happy to pick you up from the airport if you need collecting.

My client is medically ‘fixed’ but lacks the self confidence to return to work – is there anything you can assist in this case?

We can adapt our approach for many applications- we specialise in developing self confidence and awareness and will apply all our skills and the collective skills of our team in identifying what the individual wishes to achieve and plan a route to them being successful.

Does my client need to participate in all 5 weeks of the programme following the 3 day assessment?

This will depend on a number of factors – frequently the best results are gained most rapidly by participating in all 5 weeks.  However this is most usually the case with clients who are involved with ADVENTURE REHAB from the initial phases of their rehabilitation.  For those clients who join us later in their journeys bespoke weeks from the programme can be selected based on the needs identified on the 3 day assessment.

What reports and follow up documentation will I or my case manager receive?

We will send you and your case manager (and any other party you wish to notify) of your progress following each course you attend.  This is a dynamic and ‘living document’ that helps to inform all parties involved in the rehabilitation pathway and provided the rehabilitating client with a written reference to reflect upon as time progresses.  At each stage the ADVENTURE REHAB team have input into the reporting process and formal notes will be maintained on each case.  Clients will receive formal and recorded reviews from the ADVENTURE REHAB team throughout the rehabilitation process and these reviews are conducted as 360 degree appraisals with full participation of the client.

Can my family accompany me?

YES – we believe one of the key secrets to successful rehabilitation is early and fully embracing your family in your collective journeys.  Week 1 and 3 have specific modules (the last 3 days of each week) that are programmed specifically to run parallel with the rehabilitation programmes and enable your families, partners and care support to experience what or participating in and gain a separate programme of motivation and coping strategies alongside you.  This will help them to understand your ability and your needs better and will introduce them to a peer group of support  that assists them in the key role that they fulfil in maintaining your rehabilitation progress!

Do you only run rehabilitation programmes for Amputees?

No – we are developing programmes for delivering our philosophy to a range of rehabilitating groups, including those with spinal, neuro and paediatric needs.  Please contact us to disucss your individual requirements.
